L. Heckman was admitted to the Bar of Ohio in 1975. He began his legal career
in Urbana, Ohio on July 1, 1975 as Assistant Prosecuting Attorney of Champaign
County, Ohio and also opened a part-time private practice. He left the Prosecutor's
Office in October, 1976 and went out on his own full-time. Mr.
Heckman served as City Solicitor of the City of Urbana briefly in 1977 and was
an elected member of the City of Urbana Charter Commission from 1977-1978, culminating
in the passage of the first ever charter of the City of Urbana. Mr.
Heckman moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1979, took and passed the New Mexico
Bar Examination and practiced law in Albuquerque from 1979-1980. He then returned
to Urbana, Ohio and reopened his practice there. In
1988, Mr. Heckman was elected Prosecuting Attorney for Champaign County, Ohio
and served two consecutive terms as Prosecutor from January, 1989 to January,
1997. During that time, Mr. Heckman continued in his private practice on a part-time
basis. In January
1997 Mr. Heckman returned to the full time practice of law in Urbana and in February
2009 he joined the new law firm of Harris, Meyer, Heckman, and Denkewalter, L.L.C.
as a partner. |
