Darrell
L. Heckman was born March 7, 1949 in Columbus, Ohio. He
graduated from Upper Arlington High School where he was
Student Council President in 1967. He attended the
University of Oklahoma for one year and then transferred
to The Ohio State University.
At OSU, Mr.
Heckman was an active member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity
and a member of the Undergraduate Student Government as
a Senator. During his senior year he traveled to the
Soviet Union and graduated in 1971.
Mr. Heckman
joined the United States Army Reserve in 1971 and was on
active duty for four months at the end of that year and
remained in the Reserves for six years, where he
achieved the rank of Specialist 4th Class. While on
active duty he was the only member of his company to
achieve a perfect score on the basic physical fitness
test.
Mr.
Heckman enrolled at the University of Toledo College
of Law in the fall of 1972, attended year-round and
graduated in December, 1974.
He took and
passed the February 1975 Ohio State Bar Examination
and was sworn in as a lawyer.
Darrell
married the former Nancy Keyser, an Urbana
schoolteacher, on July 29, 1978. The Heckmans have
three children: Lee, 27, who graduated from The Ohio
State University Moritz College of Law in 2008;
Benjamin, 24, a third year dental student at the
University of Kentucky; and Julie, 22, a graduate
student at Wright State University.
Mr. Heckman's
interests include reading, history and politics.
